In today’s era men, especially in their 20’s looks for validation in social media and what we see on television, a man can easily lose his way and stumble and never be able to rise. Men want to grow big muscles without going to the gym, become an overnight millionaire without working hard.

A penny saved is a penny slaved

I do regret not starting to save early immediately after being employed at 21. I vividly recall one December spending a year’s savings on bottles of booze in just one night. Five years later, I am yet to recover. Fast forward to today reading books such as Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, Power of Broke by FUBU’s founder Daymond John has enlightened me on financial literacy and reasons why it is important to start where I am with the little I have. Staying in on weekends and not living YOLO type of lifestyle. Forget the Louis Vuitton shoes and the Gucci belts and put your money in the bank.

 

No type of rich girlfriend can give a man direction

Men in their 20’s think that a rich girlfriend can give a man direction, for instance, where he needs to be at a certain point in life or be a messiah and save him from financial brokenness. That will not happen unless a man figures out who he is and what he wants to become and understand that destiny is in his own hands. It is only then that a can start a journey to fulfill his potential.

 

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

Failure is a passing stage in existence. There is nothing that is ever-enduring. Winners are not always champions unless they continue to work very intensely on it. Losers are also not losing forever unless they wish to remain like that. A strong will to soldier on eventually helps to discover a manner to gain a continuing spirit to battle and endure setbacks.

 

Get a job

A man in his 20’s should find a job and try to get paid. The earlier a man starts earning, the easier it is to put money aside before old age sets in. I mean, no man wants to be in his 40’s and cannot feed himself or his family, I think a dollar here and a dollar there can go a long way to help a man achieve his goals.

 

Watching television all day won’t pay the bills

Watching television and staying on social media all day won’t pay rent or electricity bills not. Actually, the most successful people prefer reading books to television, especially self-motivating books and entrepreneurial books.

 

You are your company

A rich man had only one son. The son fell into the bad company. He developed many bad habits.

The man was much worried about the habits of his son. He tried his best to mend his habits, but he could not succeed. One day he thought of a plan to teach his son a lesson.

He went to the market and purchased some fresh apples and a rotten one. He came back to his home and called his son. He asked his son to put all the apples along with the rotten one in the cupboard.

The son did the same. After some days,’ father asked his son to bring the apples. As he opened the door of the cupboard, he was surprised to note that all the apples had become rotten. He felt sad.

At this, his father told him to see how one rotten apple had spoiled all the rest. In the same way, one bad companion could spoil all others. The father’s advice had the desired effect. The son gave up bad company and became good again.

At times a man might be hanging out with bad apples because he lacks identity, but the moment he separates himself from the rotten apples there he finds purpose and self-actualization.

A man’s potential is easily defined in what he can become and achieve during the process.
