Barely a day after unknown people stole at least Sh11 million from Barclays Bank branch in Nairobi, another branch in Murang’a has been destroyed by fire on Monday afternoon around 1.30pm.

No casualties were reported.

Standard Digital has learned that although a section was destroyed, the fire was contained.

Security guards manning the bank alerted the county fire brigade in time.

According to Citizen Digital, Murangá Director of Criminal Investigations Julius Rutere said initial investigations suggest the fire might have been caused by an electric fault.

“So far we are not suspecting any foulplay. We are taking the cause of the fire to be an electrical fault but that is subject to confirmation,” he said.

The cash stored at the bank was confirmed safe by the DCI officer.

On April 21, suspected thugs managed to steal money from ATMs at Buru Buru, Kenyatta National Hospital and South B.

The incidents happened on Saturday at almost the same time in what officials suspect to be an inside job.

The first incident happened in Buruburu’s Mutindwa ATM dispenser where G4S personnel had on April 18 loaded Sh7 million for the weekend.

On April 20, the personnel were informed the machine was not working. When they arrived there they discovered Sh6.2 million had been stolen.
