Two traffic police officers in Bomet are nursing injuries after they were attacked by members of the public while cracking down on vehicles.

The officers were pelted with stones after clamping down two probox vehicles at Kapkoros trading centre.

The officers who were in the company of Bomet base commander Richard Saima, were forced to fire in the air to disperse the irate  public.

A police vehicle they were using was damaged during the incident.

The residents were angered by the fact that the vehicles being clamped were being used by mourners who were going for a funeral.

“The vehicles were not picking passengers. We were using them to go to a funeral. They did not want to hear any explanation and this is what angered the public,” said a resident.

Bomet County police Commander Naomi Ichami said the officers have been treated and discharged.

“The two sustained head injuries and were treated at Longisa Hospital and discharged,” said Ms Ichami.

She added police have started investigating the incident.
