Trolling me online won’t stop me from modeling — Miss Maseno

Maseno University has a new king and queen in town following beauty pageantry held on the climax of this year’s Cultural week.

Many, however, are airing dissenting views against the decision of the beauty pageantry judges naming Aileen Audrey, a second year Fashion Design student, Miss Maseno 2019/2020. The sad bit is that some people took to social media to bully beautiful Audrey. Evance Otieno, a third year Procurement and Supply Chain Management student was voted Mr Maseno University.

Campus Vibe caught up with Audrey and spoke to her about her views given her crowning atttracted quite some uncouth remarks on social media.

Where do you hail from?

I come from Rusinga Island, on eastern part of Lake Victoria, in Homa Bay county wher I was also raised.

Your family must be proud of you?

Yes. And I come from a middle class family where I can say I never missed essential needs as a child.

What do you model?

I am passionate about modeling. It’s been in me since primary school. That also influenced the course that I take now. That’s why I joined others in the auditions and here I am.

Netizens have not been so kind to you since your crowning? Does that affect you?

No! They have no idea the kind of lady they are dealing with. I am strong and they can wait and testify to that. I focus on positivity.

So you are not giving up? I want to prove all those trolling and cyber bullying me wrong — and let them understand that dark skinned ladies are also better at modeling.

Your view on social meadia freedom?

Despite the fact that every person has the right to do what they believe in, they should respect others.

What is your message to those bashing you online?

God created us in his own likeliness; no one should criticise the other because they have something that others lack.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

This crown has provided a lee-way to participate in international contests. Through social media has made me famous, I have to use this chance to soar to greater heights. I also have a dream of opening a clotheline and modeling agency without discriminating both the dark skin and the light ones too.

What is your take on cyber bullying?

The government should not allow cyber-crime perpetrators to go unpunished. They should face the wrath of the law since individuals on the receiving end get heavily traumatized.

Streets had it that you wanted to commit suicide…

That is a lie. I have never thought of doing so despite having challenging moments.
