Five people were killed in Arabal location, Baringo South, in a dawn attack by bandits.

Among those killed were three secondary school students and two police reservists.

Arabal Chief William Koech said suspected bandits raided the village at around 3am.

The students, according to the chief, were home for midterm holidays.

The raiders are said to have made away with an unknown number of animals and a rifle belonging to one of the reservists.

“We are yet to establish the number of animals the raiders took,” said Mr Koech.

High tension

Koech said tension was still high, even as General Service Unit officers kept responding to the attacks whose frequency had recently increased.

The chief called on residents to maintain peace, as the security team pursued the killers. He said the Government was determined to bring to book the raiders and end the cattle rustling menace.

“It is a sad moment here. We, however, call on locals to maintain peace and allow police to investigate the matter. The culprits must be brought to book,” said Koech. Baringo County Administration Police Commander Robinson Ndiwa said his officers were pursuing the raiders.
