SUMMARY

Murage’s child was admitted on January 26 and discharged on February 11 but he was unable to pay the hospital bill

He decided to sneak out with his daughter from the hospital but was stopped by security officers

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday morning expressed his relief at the release of Boniface Murage, the man who attempted to smuggle his baby from Kenyatta National Hospital.

Through a statement seen by Ureport, the governor noted that a good Samaritan had settled the bill and he further revealed that he had shopped for Mugabe’s family.

“I'm happy Boniface Murage is now a free man after the court gave him a 3-month non-custodial sentence since he pleaded guilty for attempting to smuggle his baby out of Kenyatta National Hospital as he couldn't raise an outstanding hospital bill amounting to Sh 56,000.

“Murage has promised to adhere to all the strict conditions set by the court of not being involved in crime during the 3-month probation period.

“Last evening my team shopped for Mugabe's family including his daughter who was released from the hospital after a good Samaritan settled their hospital bill,” read the statement in part.

He added: “I'm appealing to other Kenyans to offer good deeds to the less fortunate members of the society as a way of showing generosity. As the Ambassador of good deeds in Africa, I'll be hosting the Good Deeds Day on April 7th to promote good deeds in our society.”

Murage’s child was admitted on January 26 and discharged on February 11 but he was unable to pay the hospital bill.

He decided to sneak out with his daughter from the hospital but was stopped by security officers.

Appearing before Milimani Magistrate Caroline Nzibe on Monday, Murage admitted that he attempted to commit a felony saying: “It is true. Yes, I attempted to go away with my daughter.

“I feared that my daughter and my beloved wife would be detained at KNH for long since I could not raise the bill."
