NTSA distances itself from Nairobi street racing event

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Friday distanced itself from a street racing event held in Nairobi saying it had not approved it.

Ureport learnt that the event organized by Extreme Performance took place last weekend in Kasarani and had listed NTSA as one of the partners.

“Notice on Race organized by Extreme Performance…This is to inform members of the public that NTSA disassociates itself from this activity.

“The Authority has not approved it as alleged by the organizers,” read the statement by the body tasked with keeping roads safe.

The Tarmac Autocross took place on February 2nd and 3rd and winners were listed on Extreme Performance’s social media pages.

The event mostly attracts speed enthusiasts who enjoy racing and they are often placed into categories e.g. AWD (all-wheel drive) and 2WD (two-wheel drive).

An AWD is a vehicle with a powertrain capable of providing power to all its wheels, whether full-time or on-demand.

The most common forms of all-wheel drive are 4×4.

A 2WD, on the other hand, is a vehicle that has a drivetrain that allows two wheels to receive power from the engine simultaneously.

Extreme Performance announced that the next event will be held in March 2019 dubbed the Drags Festival.
