'Stupid square back passes' – Solskjaer takes swipe at Mourinho

Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appeared to hit out at ex-United boss Jose Mourinho’s tactics following his team’s 1-0 win over Tottenham at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Since the Norwegian took over in December, the Red Devils have managed to collect 18 points out of a possible 18, winning six matches in a row.

Solskjaer’s Man United have adopted a new style of play, attacking football, which he says is the way his teams are supposed to play.

"It’s about attacking, about pace, about power,” said Solskjaer, reacting to a question from the press after the Spurs match.

"That’s what Manchester United are built around – attacking football and going forward. Not stupid square and back passes," he added.

His comments have been perceived by Man United faithful as a slight dig on ex-boss Mourinho, whose tenure was characterised by negative, and, according to some quarters, ‘boring football’.

Under Solskjaer, Man United players seem to have realised their confidence and are playing better than they did under Mourinho.

Man United are now sixth – level on points (41) with Arsenal.
