An open letter to all Nairobians travelling back to the City after Christmas

News

Dear sirs and Madams,

I hope you enjoyed your holidays and more so, the Christmas back at home.

However, I have a few things to tell you as you are travelling back to your city.

First and foremost, I request that you be kind enough to restock the shopping for your hosts. I know that by the time you are going back, the sugar you bought, the cooking oil, salt, flour, etc are already depleted and it would be injustice to leave them with nothing. You need to live as per the old adage, “a visitor is supposed to be blessing”.

Secondly, you also need to ensure that you leave these people some money to use as they adapt to their lifestyle. I know some of you used much money for the celebrations, but that is not a good excuse to abandon them with nothing. They also don’t have money to use.

Thirdly, most of you have a habit of forgetting that you will need the same homesteads and villages next holiday season. Therefore, make sure that everything you use is left in the state you found it. It is not appropriate to leave the pit latrine, the makeshift bathroom, or even the house in a more dilapidated situation than you found it. If you are in a position to improve them, it would be better to do so before leaving. Don’t leave your hosts the burden to make repairs at their costs.

Last but not least, most of you are also fond of blacklisting your important relatives after leaving the villages until the next December. Do not block your host’s numbers the rest of the year and only unblock when we need them. For me, this is quite inhumane and you may not found someone to help you next time.

I wish you all Journey Mercies!
