The number of Kenyan sportsmen who are either married or dating white women is on the rise.

The same applies to our beautiful sportswomen, most of whom are either married to or dating white men. Indeed love knows no boundaries — and that’s a beautiful thing especially when that love is brewed in the sports arena.

The Nairobian takes a look at local athletes; footballers, boxers, athletes, and volleyballers who are in interracial relationships — hunting far, so to speak.

Judy Waguthii

Judy Waguthii is the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Super Lightweight champion, a title she won in May after beating Prisca Vicot from France in Glattbrug, Switzerland.
In total, she boasts of 16 wins, eight losses and four draws in 28 bouts.

She is married to Frenchman Greg Schira, who is also her boxing manager. The two started dating in 2012 and moved in together as a married couple in 2014. Since then, God has blessed them with a daughter, who just turned three.

Waguthii says she fell in love with Greg and that he is able to balance between being a husband and being a manager.

“I found a man who believed in me and wanted to uplift me. As a manager, he takes care of all paperwork and when I get tired from the gym he steps in to help in the kitchen; just to ensure that I eat well,” she said. For Greg, marrying an African woman is one of the best decisions he has ever made in life. He also explains that his wife being a female boxer makes it even more interesting.
“To date a boxer is the same as dating any powerful woman. It can be intimidating and challenging, but we can’t run away from the fact that time has reached when women have been empowered and men need to meet the challenge of being able to cope with those situations,” Gred told The Nairobian.

Adding: “African women are the most beautiful and strongest in the world. So my decision to marry Waguthii was based on the fact that she is beautiful, strong, powerful and resilient.”

Greg is out to see her wife succeed in her career. “Before being a manager, I’m doing my best to be a supportive husband,” he said.

From Kano Kobura-Nyanza, Raymond Andrew Ochieng’, is a Kenyan heavyweight professional boxer based in the United States.
The 41-year old married a white woman in 2012 and together they have three sons; James, Lucas and Zachariah.
His short comment about the inter-racial marriage explains it all. He must be happy.

“Marriage life here is good. I can’t complain,” he told The Nairobian.

Ayub Timbe Masika is a Kenyan forward, who currently plays for Chinese Super League side Beijing Renhe and the Kenya national team Harambee Stars.

The 26-year old born in Nairobi’s Pumwani estate is reportedly dating a white lady and it became evident when he posted a photo of him and the lady on September 10th; his birthday, with the caption ‘Thanks 4 all ya Birthday Wishes!!!’.

Janet Wanja

Svelte Kenya Pipeline and Malkia Strikers’ setter Janet Mungai Wanja just “kills” white men. So far, she has fallen in love with two, the first one being a Briton while the second one is Italian. The Volleyball queen had been married to Andrew Swearman, the Briton before parting ways in 2016. Six months later, after the unexpected breakup, the Italian Giulio Calauti was unveiled. And the relationship is growing stronger and stronger...

Wesley Korir is a Kenyan long distance athlete. The 35-year old is married to Canadian Tarah McKay, who is also an athlete, and whom they have been together as a couple since 2010.

Other Kenyan athletes, who either date or are married to whites include Denmark based middleweight boxer Evans Ashira Oure, Kenyan international footballer Paul ‘Modo’ Kiongera and Hockey player Lucy Wangechi.
When contacted, Kiongera was shy from commenting on the issue. “Yes, am dating a white but I would not like to comment about it now. Let it just be,” he said
