Legendary Tanzanian actor dies in hospital

Legendary Tanzanian actor Amri Athuman aka Mzee Majuto is dead.

Reports indicate that the deceased was admitted at the Muhimbili Hospital earlier this week after his condition worsened but did not make it.

In April this year, the artiste was flown to India for specialized treatment after it emerged that he was suffering from a hernia (a condition that occurs when an organ pushes through an opening in the muscle or tissue that holds it in place).

The 70-year-old is known for his roles in various movies including Kondakta, Mama Nitilie Movie and King Majuto Returns Home among others.

Having started his acting career at a young age, Majuto quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most sought after thespians in Tanzania.

His demise was mourned by many, including Bongo star Diamond Platnumz and Wema Sepetu.

“May your Humble Soul Rest in Paradise KING...Will always Miss and Love you,” wrote Diamond.

“Alipangalo Allah... I wished to work with you baba angu... Ila Allah hakupanga... Kapumzike baba angu... Mungu Mkali jamani....????????????... Ila kama kuteseka tu umeteseka jamani.... RIP King,” (God’s will. I woshed to work with you my dad but it was not meant to be. Rest In Peace) wrote Sepetu.

Prior to his death, the actor told all his colleagues who had conned him to keep the money they owed him although they had contributed to his poverty.

May his soul Rest in Peace.
