Flood victims in Kilifi appeal for condoms from government, say it’s urgent

Flood victims in Kilifi County have left tongues wagging after appealing to the government for condoms in their camps.

Thousands of residents are currently camping at Garashi in Magarini after they were displaced and rescued by Kenya Defense Soldiers (KDF).

According to Nation, one resident, Mzee Kitsao said that the need for condoms is for the teenagers who are sexually active.

“The need for condoms here is great. Some of us came with our teenagers and, since they are sexually active, our fear is that they may engage in unprotected sex, which could lead to infections,” said Mzee Kitsao

The victims got displaced after River Sabaki, which stretches from Athi River, broke its banks following the ongoing rains.

Kenya Red Cross Society had said that the number of flood victims in the county might shoot to 18,000.
