Mixed reactions after MP Shah justifies Sh860k patient bill in 12 hours

After an outrage on social media, the MP Shah Hospital gave an explanation for the Sh858, 355 patient bill who died 12 hours after she was admitted.

According to MP Shah, the deceased, Matilda Anyango, was rushed to the hospital after sustaining injuries from stabbing which led to massive blood loss.

“The patient was brought in on the night of 11th April 2018 shortly before midnight after sustaining injuries which led to massive blood loss. As with protocol, in which every patient has the right to emergency treatment and due to her critical condition, she underwent emergency surgery by a multi-disciplinary team of surgeons. The patient was in critical state and needed life support in our Intensive Care Unit,” read part of the statement.

The hospital continued to explain that any hospital bill is not only dictated by the duration of stay by the patient but also the extent and complexity of the medical procedures.

“We would like to state that any medical bill is not dictated only by the duration of the stay in the hospital but by the extent and complexity of the medical procedures accorded to the patient. The breakdown of the bill has been provided to the family,” read the statement.
