Lecturers strike in Kenya
SUMMARY
  • Public university students in Kenya have been out of school for a while now due to the lecturer's strike
  • There are several things that students can do during this time

The ongoing lecturers' strike has paralyzed learning for the past few months in all public universities in Kenya leaving students stranded.

However, in as much as learning is paralyzed, the students are provided with a vast time period and window of opportunity to do positive things to add both in both one's academic portfolio and career experience and your own personal life goals. These are the 5 activities to do:

1. Volunteering

This is the time for you to get job experience in your field of study. Approach relevant and ideal organizations, companies and even institutional departments and offer yourself to work as a volunteer. Imagine volunteering as early as 1st year, by the time you graduate you will be having 4 years experience. The skills you will learn from that will add you marks when in the job market.

2. Complete Your Academic Research Project

This goes to all final year students looking to graduate this year. Now is the time to do your field evaluations, research and consultation as you have a window of time without lecture disruptions and impromptu campus schedule on your way. This is the time to get it right and closed.

3. Read! Read! And Read

Reading helps a lot in expanding the brain and a source of new knowledge. This is the time to read the huge pack of novels dusting in your shelves. Reading also entertains, well, you will have a very costless opportunity to entertain yourself.

4.Add and Lose Weight.

The Kenyan social lifestyle has been changing for the past decade. Ladies want the slim and figure 8 body while men are after packs and bodybuilding. Well, for the fat guys, it's time to hit the road and gym and get your definite body and for the thin ones, it's time to eat and work out.

5. Get Close to God

Students have the habit of complaining and insisting they are always busy 24-7 not finding time for a CU Sunday session at University chapel or a Saturday Adventist Sabbath day. Well, now you have the opportunity to find your way back again to God. You have Monday to Monday of free time, read a bible verse per day, go for bible studies and visit the Church to pray as God is the key to everything you seek in life.
