Forget Luke Shaw, Manchester United set to break the bank for sensational player

Manchester United fans long for the days when their team was world class. Jose Mourinho has heard them.

According to English football outlet the Mirror, the Manchester United manager has made central midfield and defense a priority as we approach the summer and could lure some big names to Old Trafford before or after the World Cup.

Mirror reports that the Red Devils are considering replacing Luke Shaw with a more versatile left back, Celtic’s Kieran Tierney popping up as one of Mourinho’s targets.

The 20-year-old has impressed under former Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers so far and could make his way to Manchester if Jose Mourinho sees fit.

Although he just signed a new six-year deal with Celtic six months ago, Man United could still afford him, with his estimated price said to be around 25 million euros.

Perhaps what has caught Mourinho’s eye about Tierney is his versatility i.e. his ability to play in any defensive area, which suits the ‘special one’ just fine, considering his nature of signing players who can play more than one role.

Tierney, if he signs, could be made Man United’s number 1 left back, with England International Ashley Young set to back him up. But first, he will have to adapt to Mourinho’s style of play.

Luke Shaw has been the most criticized player under Mourinho’s reign, Man United’s FA Cup against Brighton and Hove Albion being the latest one where Shaw was on the spotlight. He got substituted at halftime, a move that never went down well with the Man United contingent.

After the game, Mourinho said that some of his players were “scared to play” and that he felt like some wanted to be taken off the pitch.

Multiple reports in the last six months have also linked Tottenham left-back Danny Rose with Man United.

Tierney would be the perfect fit for Mourinho’s men both physically and financially because of his ability to play anywhere in defense and also his price tag, which is ‘cheap’ considering the massive deals that have gone through in the previous transfer window.
