Confusion for male students on opening day after institution changes to girl’s school

Students from the St Georges Greenland Senior Boys School in Nakuru County were left in shock after they reported back to school only to find that the institution was no longer a boys’ school.

Parents of the students are asking the acting Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I for help as the institutions had not communicated about the changes early enough.

The school owner, Mr. George Gichimo, explained the reason for the sudden change saying that the boys had been undisciplined citing unrest. However, one student claimed that there has been only one incident of school unrest when the students protested over an improperly prepared meal.

According to Nation, among those affected are 16 students who will now have to find new schools to register for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

One student said that they are having a challenge looking for schools since no institution wants a form four student in their school.

According to Mr. Gichimo, the management has made arrangements to have the boys integrated to other schools and that the parents who had paid the fees for January will be refunded.

The County Director for Education Mr Isaac Nyang’au, however said that there have already sent out a team to investigate the matter.

“A team is already handling the matter but I urge parents who have encountered incidences to report to the education offices immediately,” he said.
