GREEN LIGHT FOR MOURINHO: Man United could make SIX shock signings in January

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho could finally get his wish after it was reported that the Red Devils were willing to give him the green light to sign six players to reinforce his ‘struggling’ side.

According to Manchester United Evening News, Mourinho could reinforce six major areas on the pitch during the transfer window.

After the 2-2 draw at home to Sean Dyche’s Burnley, Mourinho slammed fierce rivals Manchester City, saying Pep Guardiola’s side but wing-backs for the price of strikers.

Mourinho was also keen to highlight the difference between his team and Guardiola’, saying one is a big football club while the other is a big football team.

On the back of criticism from pundits after 4 consecutive games without a win, Mourinho defended his side, saying that they deserved to win all the matches they have drawn and lost and urged supporters to embrace the fact that the club was going through a tough transition.

Man United look weak in many areas of the pitch and Mourinho will be hoping to bag big names in the January and summer transfer window.

Here are the six positions that he needs to work on:

Right-Back – Antonio Valencia is Man United’s longest serving player still in the squad. It is hard to argue that he has been one of the best right backs the club has ever had and replacing him will be a tall order. He turns 33 next season and fans are already demanding for a successor, suppose Valencia goes out of contract.

PSG and Belgium International Thomas Meunier is on Mourinho’s radar and could be sold to United in the summer.

Left-back – Man United are seriously in need of a proper left-back. Though Luke Show has stood out of late and produced amazing performances, Mourinho still doesn’t look like he has a preferred choice for the position.

If rumours are anything to go by, Tottenham’s Danny rose could switch places with the former Saints man.

Midfield – Since Sir Alex Ferguson left, Man United’s midfield has always had issues. Jose Mourinho has tried to bolster the area by signing Paul Pogba last season and Nemanja Matic this season. Marouane Fellaini is reportedly eyeing a move to another club with Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera not getting enough game time.

Dortmund’s Julian Weigl and Christian Pulisic have been identified and potential replacements though no communication has been made yet.

Winger – Jose Mourinho desperately tried to sign Croatian winger Ivan Perisic last summer but failed. Bordeaux’s Malcolm has popped up in recent weeks as United’s main target as Mourinho looks to bring some flare in his midfield.

Gareth Bale has also been on United’s radar, suppose the Welshman wants to leave Real Madrid.

Proper no.10 – Looking at the current Man United squad, there seems to be a surplus of requirements in the no.10 area. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are all meant for the same position but Mourinho will have to offload one or two if he wants to secure a world-class signing in the summer of in January.

Mesut Ozil has been strongly linked with a move away from the Gunners and it is believed he will reunite with Mourinho at Old Trafford.
