Top KCPE student Goldalyn Kakuya speech during MMUST graduation angers Kenyans online

The presence of top Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) student Goldalyn Kakuya at the 12th graduation of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has had many Kenyans online talking.

Ms Goldalyn from the St Anne’s Junior Lubao in Kakamega County became the talk of the town after she emerged victorious with 455 marks scoring an A in all subjects.

Most Kenyans took to social media and said that Ms Goldalyn was too young to address university graduates. Some said that the top KCPE student has been given too much attention which is not good for her age.

There was an excerpt of the top KCPE student that has been circulating online that seems to have irritated a lot of people. In the speech, Ms Goldalyn told the graduands that they have a long way to go and that graduating does not mean they have achieved much.

However, the MMUST administration has refuted claims of the speech that has been doing rounds on social media. The Communications Director of the institution said that Ms Kakuya only congratulated the graduands and that her full speech is available.

“We wish to further clarify that the purported excerpt speech circulating in the media is not a true representation of her short remarks on that day. The correct status is that Ms. Kakuya congratulated the graduands, wished them well and observed the need to be ethical while pursuing different careers. A recording of her remarks is available,” said Dr Bob Mbori, the Director, Public Communications at the MMUST in a statement.
