Help! Abortion cases in our universities are increasing alarmingly

Gone are the days when virginity was considered dignity, in our generation it is considered lack of opportunity. I recall the words of my grandma, “abortion doesn't stop you from being a mother it only makes you a dead child's mother."

At a popular university in the Coast, the cases of abortion are at an alarming rate. The head of public health at the institution estimates that "two to three" cases of abortion are procured at the health facility near the university. He also confirmed that a health officer who resigned from the county hospital is responsible for performing the act.

A student at the university procured an abortion in her first year because she feared her strict father. She admits having repeated the act earlier this year.

A law student confessed that the medical students help the ladies abort by linking them to nurses. The nurses offer the students pills at a cheap price of 2000 shillings compared to doctors who charge 8000.

Although private universities are renowned for being disciplined, a student at a prestigious in Nairobi also confessed to carrying out the act. She said that at her second year fell into the trap after being impregnated by her boyfriend. However, she says that the trauma haunts her to date.

A third-year student at the same university affirmed that she knows a pharmacist in town who has the mastered the art of abortion. The pharmacist makes rewarding deals with university students who want to get rid of their pregnancies.

We truly need moral values to be taught to our youths. The government and the religious leaders should intervene before the situation worsens.
