Jubilee MP and mourners abandon coffin after bees attack

Mourners at a funeral including Jubilee Member of Parliament, Maina Kamanda, were forced to abandon a coffin along the road for fear of their lives after a swarm of bees attacked them during the funeral of Mzee Joshua Njuguna on Tuesday October 31.

The incident left more than ten people injured including a woman and her child who were taken to the Karandi Health Centre for treatment. One of the mourners said that they had to leave the coffin along the roadside when the bees started attacking them.

"I have never seen such a huge swarm of bees in my entire life. I also never knew that they can be that hostile,” said one of the mourners as quoted by Nation.

According to the villagers, the bees belonged to Mr Njunguna’s late son who passed on early this year, and might have been provoked by children who disturbed them.

The funeral resumed when the bees left the compound two hours later, however, some mourners kept off for fear of being attacked by the bees again.

Unfortunate events of bees attacking people has been seen on several occasions in Kenya including the one that occurred at the Supreme Court of Kenya during the verdict of the repeat presidential election nullification on Wednesday 20 September 2017.
