Don’t leave anything to chance, Waiguru tells Jubilee supporters

Jubilee supporters countrywide have been cautioned against letting their guard down ahead of and during the scheduled October 26 presidential election.

According to Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru it will be detrimental for the party supporters to approach Thursday elections casually expecting an automatic win for President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“NASA’s intention is to create an environment of fear to discourage Kenyans from participating in the October 26 election. Not turning out to vote for President Kenyatta is tantamount to supporting NASA’s smear campaign against the president,” Waiguru told the press in Kirinyaga on Tuesday.

“Everyone who believes in the President and Deputy President William Ruto should not merely wish them victory but take up the extra and most important step and vote.”

Unlike Opposition coalition NASA, Jubilee has been on the campaign trail since the annulment of August 8 presidential results that declared Uhuru Kenyatta winner by the Supreme Court on September 1.

In addition to the main campaigns held by President Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto, Jubilee also dispatched the soldiery Jubilee Women Brigade and the Mbele Iko Sawa group to hunt for votes in various regions in the country.

Until recently, NASA leaders had not held a single rally outside the capital Nairobi, in what has been linked to an apparent lack of campaign funds.

Even so, the Opposition has remained adamant in their recent rallies, that there will be no election on October 26 saying the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as currently constituted cannot hold free and fair elections.IEBC has however insisted that the election will go on as planned with the government assuring voters of security during the election process.

NASA leader Raila Odinga has called on his supporters to boycott the election. But according to Waiguru, the political pronouncements by NASA are merely aimed at distracting Jubilee supporters and making them complacent.

“Numbers win elections and from the beginning NASA leaders knew that it would be impossible to defeat President Kenyatta in a fresh poll, coming hot on the heels of another defeat on August 8", she said.

Jubilee supporters must not fall prey to NASA’s political maneuvers. They should not base their participation in the October 26 elections on what NASA does or does not do. Our mission is to ensure the re-election of President Kenyatta and for that to happen we must all turn out and vote.”

She further applauded women who have actively participated in Jubilee Women Brigade campaigns, calling on them to continue mobilising support in their regions ahead of the election.

“The Jubilee Women Brigade is a movement that has never been seen before in the history of Kenyan politics. It is a statement to the country and the world that you cannot underestimate the power of women who are united for a common course.

”Governor Waiguru further noted that they will not leave any stone unturned in their push to ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta wins the October 26 election.
