Neymar heaps more misery on Sanchez after Chile fails to qualify for World Cup

Chile failed to qualify for the World Cup in Russia next year after succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of already qualified Brazil.

The current Copa America holders did not secure a top 5 finish in the Americas CONMEBOL group, settling for sixth behind Peru.

Manchester City attacker Gabriel Jesus scored a brace while Barcelona midfield maestro Paulinho sealed the win, prolonging Brazil’s unbeaten run in the qualifiers.

La Roja will be ruing missed chances from Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez, as Brazil have now eliminated Chile form a major tournament for the second time in 4 years.

Neymar and his side head to Russia hoping to avoid careless defeats, an example being the 7-1 semifinal thrashing at the hands of eventual and current champions Germany.

Football pundits have blamed Chile’s loss on the focus of some players, including Alexis Sanchez whom they say would have performed much better for the national side if he had peace of mind.

Sanchez was heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer, but Arsenal Coach Arsene Wenger resisted offers from top clubs.

Now that Sanchez will not be in the World Cup, a shadow of doubt has been cast on Arsenal Football Club, the centre of discussion being the Chilean’s performance now that he will not be in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi on his own secured a World Cup stop for the Albiceleste after a comfortable 3-1 win at Ecuador. Messi scored a hat-trick, propelling Argentina to third spot and leaving Colombia to settle for fourth.
