Why NASA postponed their big announcement

According to sources close to NASA, the postponing of the big announcement was due to IEBC’s delay in submitting all requested documents useful in the verification of presidential results.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission was not able to provide NASA with all form 34As but instead produced only form 34Bs – a collections of all tallies at constituency level.

Led by ODM leader Raila Odinga, NASA held a lengthy meeting with its technical team tasked with verification of data from the IEBC.

IEBC CEPO Ezra Chiloba, in a reply letter to NASA, said that the commission was only able to provide all the forms 34B and will avail the remaining forms to NASA as soon as possible.

Results written by hand on plain paper, obtained from the IEBC portal for Mandera South ward, Bulla Dadacha and Elwak south polling stations are some of the examples NASA used to cite election fraud.

NASA disputed the final presidential results saying the IEBC announced computer-generated president and indicated that they were not in a hurry to make any announcement to Kenyans, but would prefer to take their time and reveal the truth.

NASA leaders also said that they would not file a petition in court though that looks like the more likely route.

Operations at the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and African Centre for Open Governance (AfriCoG) have been shut down. These two institutions have been critical of the outcome of the polls and it is said that NASA also deliberated on the situation.

NASA is expected to make their big announcement on Wednesday 16th August 2017, with Kenyans growing increasingly anxious over what the leaders have planned.

Earlier, NASA CO-Principal Musalia Mudavadi had pointed an accusing finger to the IEBC, saying that the presidential election was a sham and that the commission should declare Raila Odinga the president.

However, IEBC requested NASA, and the whole country to wait for all the forms 34B to be submitted in order to announce the winner – who was Uhuru Kenyatta.
