Sonko has his job cut out as he takes over as city boss

Some of the challenges incoming Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will have to deal with urgently include collecting garbage, addressing water shortage and flooding. I guess a filthy Nairobi and acute water shortage are among reasons voters rejected Evans Kidero. The outgoing governor has left the capital stinking, quite literally. Sonko must save us from choking under the weight of garbage that has lowered the status of Nairobi, not just as the country’s capital, but a hub in Africa.

Sonko must ensure all water leaks are sealed and find alternative sources so city residents are not left at the mercy of water vendors, who at times sell them dirty water. Once this is done, diseases such as cholera will be a thing of the past. The county government must improve drainage system in the city to check floods that have been a menace to city residents for a long time. The sewage system has not been improved since independence. Sonko may want to ensure rich legacy. He should not also do business with the county.
