Waiguru officially announced as Governor - What should Kirinyaga residents expect?

Waiguru was nominated as the Jubilee candidate for the seat in April this year after trouncing incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi, immediate former Kirinyaga Central MP Joseph Gitari and former KRA boss Eliud Wanjau.

Despite commanding a significant lead for the past two days after results from Ndia, Kirinyaga Central and Gichugu were tallied, the announcement could only be made after results from Mwea had been received at the county tallying centre in Kirinyaga Central.

Waiguru beat Karua in three of the four constituencies in Kirinyaga with Karua only winning in Kirinyaga Central, the backyard of her running mate Joseph Gitari.

Her win was officially confirmed Thursday night after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) handing her the winner’s certificate.

The Kirinyaga Governor-Elect is one of the three first female governors in this year’s elections, others being Narc leader Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Jubilee’s Joyce Laboso (Bomet).
