Governor Kibwana could not entertain local chief on polls day

An administrator was on Tuesday made to leave a polling station in Makueni County.

Mulala Location chief Kituku Ngumu was at Mulala HGM Primary in Kibwezi West sub-county when Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, who had arrived at the polling centre at 6.50am to cast his vote, noticed him.

He has neared a win in the elections with an overwhelming margin given provisional results show he has 281,147 votes with just 22 polling stations remaining.

"While marking my papers, l realised that Mr Ngumu was still in the voting booth, yet there is no law that allows him to be there. Like any other Kenyan, he should have voted and left," said Kibwana.

Governor Kibwana alerted the presiding officer, Urbanas Mutuku, who asked the administrator to leave. Ngumu left without uttering a word.

Kibwana urged voters to maintain peace. He called on electoral commission chairman Wafula Chebukati to ensure that the voting is free and fair.

At Kwangumu polling station, everything went on smoothly. Presiding officer Agnes Itumange said the voting started at exactly 6am. "So far, we haven't encountered any strange behaviour and we are trying our best to ensure all is well towards the end," she said.

Rose Museo, a woman representative aspirant, urged voters not to be influenced to vote for certain candidates.
