Manchester United’s 89 million pound signing and French International midfielder Paul Pogba has again dropped the biggest hint about which player will be next to pen down a deal with the club.
Pogba – as shouldn’t be the case, was strongly linked with Antoinne Griezmann’s move to Man United – a deal which failed to materialise after the court rejected Atletico Madrid’s plea to remove the transfer ban handed to them, leaving Griezmann with no choice but to stay.
Romelu Lukaku joined Man United this summer and has already scored two goals. His strong friendship with Pogba was seen as a factor that made him snub Chelsea and join the red devils, Pogba even going an extra mile before Lukaku was a Man United player and posting pictures of them training together in America.
The Frenchman is again the centre of reports – with his statement on injured Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic raising some eyebrows.
"Obviously Zlatan is a leader, always a big leader, and he's a big leader because he's still in the team. Even though he's not playing he's a leader outside of the pitch, “Pogba said when asked about the state of affairs with Zlatan.
Rumours had it that Zlatan was going to renew his Man United contract in January since he is still using the club’s facilities to heal and regain full fitness. If Pogba’s praise of the Swedish ‘God’ is anything to go by, Man United fans should not be surprised to see him named in this season’s squad list.
Zlatan (35) scored 28 goals for United last season before an ACL injury against Anderlecht ended his season – fuelling speculation about his departure.
The club has not decided to speak on Zlatan’s contract yet but as the transfer window nears its climax, an announcement is expected before the season begins.
Manchester United have already signed Victor Lindelof from Benfica and Romelu Lukaku from Premier League rivals Everton.
Jose Mourinho’s comments about the ‘difficult’ transfer market may force him to renew Zlatan’s contract, with an attacker and a defensive midfielder topping the “Special One’s” list.
