Lady, be a woman who raises a man of honour

"Men are dogs!"

"Men can't change!"

"I hate men!"

"I can't trust a man!"

That is the song many women sing. Such women can't be blamed; they have been hurt, bruised and misused by men. Some have been raped, physically abused, economically suppressed, cheated on or degraded by men.

The truth is, many men don't know how to treat a woman. They view women as weaklings, properties, sex objects, options or toys. It takes honour to treat both men and women with respect. Many men are not men of honour.

Men of honour don't emerge out of the blue. Men of honour are raised. Someone must take the time to raise them from boyhood to manhood.

Are you a mother?

Do you have a son?

Remember that son you're raising is someone's future husband, someone's future husband; he will one day become an adult released into the society.

When he becomes an adult, will he harm women? Will he become a monster? Will he tarnish the image of men? Will he give women a reason to declare that men are evil, dogs, heartless?

Or will he treat women with respect? Will he make the wife he will marry feel loved? Will he join other men of substance to make this world a better place? Will he be responsible? Will he grow up to be a great man?

You have the chance to raise that boy into a symbol of greatness. That boy can grow up to bring you joy not stress. That boy can grow up to be the reason why you're called blessed.

Years later, you don't want to be that mother who cries in shame when you get news about your drunkard son, your drug addict son, your son the wife beater, your son the criminal, your son the cheat, your son the heartless man, your son the dead beat.

You want to get good reports of what your son is doing, to watch your son being a good example in society, to watch your son shine, to watch your son treat his wife well, to watch your son being an exemplary father. It all starts with how you raise him whether you are a single mother or married.

Teach your son hard work, tolerance, respect, values, how to have a good character, how to offer solutions, sexual responsibility and courtesy.

Also teach your son not to be a mummy's boy. Allow him to love you as a mother but also to be his own man. Teach him there is more to being a man that money.

Change the negative attitude many women have of men through your son. Stop the cycle of irresponsible men.
