KANU getting more seats in Rift Vally could rattle DP Ruto as crack looms

Deputy President William Ruto’s Jubilee turf is under pressure as the party faces intense rivalry from KANU and Bomet Governor’s Chama Cha Mashinani.

KANU secretary general Nick Salat has exuded confidence that the party will get more seats in the larger Rift Valley region than the ruling Jubilee Party.

Nick Salat on Monday accused the DP of being envious of the party which he says is regaining control in the region and that he was praying for KANU to lead the people well.

Despite being among the parties that have backed President Uhuru’s second term bid, the KANU chairman Gideon Moi has been consistent in engaging in what has been seen as supremacy battles with the Deputy President.

Senator Moi supports President Uhuru’s re-election bid but has been in a series of rival chants on his deputy whom they share a keen interest of attempting to clinch presidency in 2022.

The Jubilee-KANU battles for control of the rift has extended deeper into parts of West Pokot where President Uhuru is expected to campaign today.

Leaders allied to Jubilee party led by Governor Simon Kachapin have urged their KANU counterparts to stay away from the president’s rally saying they were nit genuine in their campaign for the president.

The president is expected to make addresses at five events in West Pokot County where the Opposition pact NASA’s five principals campaigned branding themselves ‘The Kapenguria Five’.
