A severe anemic child whose parents have reached a dead end

Eunice Wanjiku from Baraniki, Kikuyu constituency condition has forced her financially challenged parents to reach a dead end after using all the money they had on her medication with no success.
Since December last year, the girl has been at home receiving no medication.

According to her mother in 2013, Eunice was a healthy growing girl attending school like any other child. She further said that one day she developed a pimple-like swelling on her left leg which to her was not a very big issue.

A few days later the swelling developed to a wound. That was now the beginning of a long journey of pain and suffering. The painful wound increased in size and soon affected both legs and hands.
In Ward 7C at Kenyatta National Hospital, it's not hard to locate her because the smell of her wounds guides you.

Her weak body is covered with a lesso. But that can't stop the itching. Her left hand is scratching the itching areas and the pain sends the little girl to prolonged cries.

Both her parents are always by her side her mother opts to carry her on her back. The teary grandmother walks out of the room perhaps wondering what befell her grandchild. This case has to turn out to be a serious case that needs to be addressed.

When Dr. Muriuki who was called by senator Sonko to examine her, he confirmed that the 10-year girl is severely anemic and she also has mouth ulcers. This has made her to have prolonged cries each and every time she tries to feed. The girl weighs only 11kgs at 10 years. Too underweight even for any theater procedure.

There's need for immunological tests to be certain the autoimmune disease affecting her. Unfortunately, none of our public hospitals in Kenya has the capacity to carry out the tests.

This is a matter that requires a multidisciplinary approach to see whether there are other underlying conditions or whether other organs (internal) are affected. A team of specialist doctors will help.

Meanwhile, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has called upon Kenyans to join hand in supporting Eunice treatment because according to the to a team of specialist doctors her case will be solved if she will get an opportunity to access the required treatment.

“Perhaps Eunice will have access to the best possible treatment, doctors, hospital facilities and in a few months she'll be smiling,” said Dr. Muriuki.

Eunice has been hospitalized at KNH, Kiambu Hospital, and others in an effort to make her get healed.
