Museveni opens up why she was against his wife joining politics

Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has hinted that he was against his wife going for any political post in Uganda.

Speaking during an interview on TV a week ago Museveni said that he didn't want his wife to get involved in active politics but she went against his advice to run for an elective post and got the biggest majority.

“The few members who are involved in the countries leadership are involved on their own merit. My wife against my advice sort an elective position and had the biggest majority in the whole country,” said Museveni.

The long-serving Ugandan President said that he knew politics was strenuous and he was not ready to allow his wife to run up and down.He said that in itself could not give her enough time to deal with other family matters.

To some people, Museveni was against his wife decision because too many it would look like the president was fronting his family in a bid to rule the country after his retirement.

In addition, Museveni denied claims that he was an exercising nepotism by appointing his family members to higher positions in government. This came up as Museveni appointed his wife as the new minister of education and sports, a coveted position in Uganda because it takes one of the largest chunks of the annual budget.

On the other hand, he also promoted his eldest son Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to become a special presidential adviser in a reshuffle of army commanders, fueling speculation that he is being groomed to become the next president when Museveni retires in the next three years.

Meanwhile, Museveni said that if people call him a dictator then he is a wonderful dictator who is elected five times. He said that he was elected five times with a big majority.
