The reason why musicians do not get arrested for smoking what looks to be ‘weed’ in their videos is interesting

It is the norm of the music video nowadays. If you are a high profile rapper and you are not smoking ‘weed’ in your videos then you are not as ‘gangsta’ as a rapper should be. It is common to see musicians blow off smoke from their mouths and indications suggest that they are usually smoking Marijuana.

The question has come up as to why these guys don’t get arrested when marijuana is illegal in some states? Some artists go great lengths to shoot a music video, which means that they can fly to another continent just to shoot a 4-minute video. It is difficult to miss a rapper smoking in his video unless he/she has never smoked before.

The interesting fact is that they can’t get arrested.

Decoding this is quite simple really:

1. There is no possible way to prove that whatever is being smoked in the music video is marijuana. Yes, there is smoke and the substance is wrapped in brown but one cannot tell if it is ‘weed’ or not.

2. When artists fly to other countries to do music videos, say in a beach with people all over, it's usually in a country where the laws regarding marijuana usage are a bit lenient and they can be allowed to smoke in a particular recreational spot.

3. Medical marijuana is real and many artists have licenses for usage. So, whenever they smoke in their videos, they can always get away from police using the license.
