Child becomes a squatter in his father's land as he receives zero inheritance

News

We attended a certain funeral it was one of its kind with all these family disagreements and all that. What really shocked us was when one man said to be the elder brother of the deceased rose to read a will which he was instructed to read on the burial day.

The children of the deceased were called forth. With all this tension around, each one listened as the will was being read out. Every child received a share of the inheritance except one who did not receive anything.

Being of the same father and mother as the other children he was told, “Nothing has been left for you.” Surprisingly, with no explanation of why. He pleaded with his brothers not to chase him away but at least give him a place to stay. He became a squatter in his own fathers land.

This sparked a lot of questions amongst the people in attendance. Murmuring was heard around. Everything fell apart. Nothing was left to say for the young man but to accept the reality and move on. Sad indeed.

As we left the place I remembered a verse:

1 Peter 1:3-4

All honor to God, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; for it is his boundless mercy that has given us the privilege of being born again so that we are now members of God's own family. Now we live in the hope of eternal life because Christ rose again from the dead. And God has reserved for his children the priceless gift of eternal life; it is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.

We are heirs to the kingdom of God same as the young man was an heir to the wealth of his father; Members to God’s family as the man is to his family. What if one loses his inheritance on that judgment day?

I saw how the man was frustrated. How sad will it be for one to lose his eternal inheritance?

Earthly inheritance fades away. It might have been got out of corrupt ways. This inheritance might not bring fulfillment to one’s life. The inheritance can be stolen away. Yet it pains the heart not to have a share of it.

How will it be then to lose an inheritance that is pure and undefiled, one which brings fulfillment and joy to the heart, which is beyond reach of change and decay, one that cannot fade away?

Examine yourself and get rid of the things that may cost you your inheritance. The young man may have done some things which were not pleasing to his father. They were not in good terms I may say. Our relationship with our fathers determine the share of inheritance we get and on the other hand if we get it or not.

It’s time to create an intimate relationship with God. Seek Him!

As for me the decision is already made. I don’t want to lose my inheritance in Christ. I don’t want to be a squatter in my own fathers land. I don’t want to see my brothers and sisters receive their share yet I don’t.

What about you?
