Drugs Menace is our greatest problem not corruption

Where are we headed to as a country when we succumb to cheap propaganda peddled by a self-serving regime? I woke up on the 1st of February 2017 only to find a section of Kenyans celebrating a “win” in the war against drugs, after the infamous Akasha brothers were extradited to the USA for drug-related crimes.

Maybe I was dreaming, but if I was to list the problems Kenya is facing, drugs won’t make it on the top 100. I thought people would be furious at the blatant disregard of our constitution, our laws should apply to all.

I shudder at the impact of these lawless actions on the confidence of the Judiciary. Do we really need a Judiciary in the Kenyan Constitution, I beg to ask?

Misdirection won today, the Government can sigh with relief after a week of bashings, from industrials strikes in the public sector, the drought ravaging some parts of the country, lost patriots in Somalia, corruption topped up with the embarrassing loss of the AU chairmanship.

The Akasha brothers have been regarded as the epitome of evil in the Kenya society today, not corruption, not the inaccessibility to health care or quality education, not the rising cost of living, not the lack of jobs, but drugs, the billion dollar industry.

I know that the drugs sold by these drug barons are so expensive. I wonder which section of Kenyan population could actually afford them, the jobless youth?

Yes, there are thriving drug barons in Kenya, they have made billions of shillings from the trade, that I agree, and they should be stopped, legally.

The fact that corruption is our moral web that binds us together, it is all a sick joke! They are so thriving that they are so many cartels and factions.

Remember, Pablo Escobar only became Colombia’s Government problem when he lost a political seat in the government and subsequently lost influence. When he could no longer bribe his way he resorted to terrorism and violence.

Our drugs barons are wiser and have never run short of influence. They run the government. The problem is the many cartel and factions that are fighting to have total power and influence.
