Kisii University comrades face the wrath of a Matiang'i-like electoral body

It was not business as usually when the Deputy President William Ruto arrived in Sogoo Narok south on Thursday. The Rift valley king knew that he still has the command of the community and he is still a very popular politician in the region.

The residents' humiliation to Mr. Ruto did not go well with him. Roles were interchanged, and instead of him addressing the crowd, he was addressed on the empty promises he has given to the residents . This clearly shows that the deputy president has been assuming that the residents will always stand by him no matter what he did to them.

The big question was why should the deputy president visit them at this crucial moment when he wants them to register as voters so that they vote again for the Jubilee government yet he has not fulfilled the promises he made to them.

The truth that emerged during that meeting is that Mr. Ruto has overshadowed developments in the area and as he was speaking most of the roads are impassable in the area and he was forced to fly to the area because he could not use the roads that were in a very bad condition.

It is very clear that the citizens no longer matter to politicians, what matters is whether we as the citizens vote for them. It was clear that Mr. Ruto is not even aware of what is happening on the ground. The suffering the residents are going through is far felt by politicians.

Something that stands out is that the Deputy President may be slowly losing his grip in the Rift valley because he now thinks highly of himself since he clinched the second highest job in the land. We saw Mr. Ruto being ushered to the residents and being rebranded by the Energy Cabinet secretary Charles Keter who cooled the tempers of the resident so that they could allow the Deputy President to address them.

How can Ruto follow up on minor things such as the number of people who don’t have IDs yet he doesn’t know the number of youth who are unemployed in the region? Does it mean unemployment is not a big deal?

I thank the residents of Sogoo because they have put their leader to task and he has accepted his mistakes. He is going to rectify the mistakes.

How about if these residents were muzzled and asked to play the sycophants game, would their problems be addressed? Probably no. So from this, we learn that we should not fear criticizing our leaders no matter their status.

I hope the police will not go after those who shot down at the deputy president as he was trying to speak and robbed him of his intended speech giving him new issues to address.

The speech robbery was worth it and William Ruto should go back to the drawing board as he solves the problems of the citizens who entrusted him with leadership responsibilities.
