Why was CS Fred Matiang'i in a hurry to release the KCSE results? There must be something wrong that went wrong

I don’t oppose the good work Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has done to restore integrity in our education system and the objectivity of our examinations. However, as an experienced teacher of mathematics and a lawyer, I suspect the results of last year’s KCSE exam do not reflect the true performance of the candidates who sat the exam.

An examination is aimed at creating continuity of an individual from elementary level through primary to secondary and give room for professional training at the tertiary level.

Many examiners claim that they were under a lot of pressure to release ‘raw results’ which had not been properly counter-marked. Further, the results were not subjected to statistical evaluation and therefore it is difficult to tell whether cheating occurred or not.

Thirdly, we cannot condemn those who scored Ds and Es and expect to have a peaceful and crime-free society.

Why was the minister in a hurry to release such important results? Something must have gone wrong.
