In
the next few days the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education will commence.
Actually, it will be the second national examination year under the helm of the
no non sense Dr. Fred Matiang’i. This will be a culmination of the candidates
four years of toil and hard work. Undoubtedly, this is always a period of mixed
emotions, both positive and negative even to the most brilliant students.
Positive because you are soon getting out of that prison like life
where you have been a slave of the bell and simply your movements have been
under high surveillance by teachers. Negative because you are soon parting ways
with the bunch of friends you have made over time. Luckily the world has been
made small thanks to modern technology.
These
are our young brothers and sisters to whom they will always look up to as role
models. Let us stand for them in every noble way even as we hope to welcome
them to campus life. In as much as we pressure them on performing extemporary,
let us not forget to share with them some nuggets of wisdom and say as it is.
Majority of them are in their adolescence and therefore the freedom that awaits
them out there may mess them up even before joining institutions of higher
learning. Make them understand that with freedom comes responsibility.
I am certain we all have fond memories of our high school days without any regrets whatsoever (personally I do), but with overwhelming nostalgia. Much awaits them; so encourage them to face life after KCSE with wisdom. Success wishes are in order for the 2016 KCSE class.
