When the much anticipated interview goes sour

News

The silence of the stars was too much that it daunted her. She longed and waited anxiously for the wishing star to make a wish. It was the only savior of the night that she counted on, particularly because she couldn't find sleep. Sleep deprivation was melting the edges off her entire concentration as she fitfully searched for the fainted glow, of any star that seemed bright enough. The anticipation of the following day had proved to be more thrilling than she could contain.

Linda was a twenty four year old, whose ambition was brighter than the moon and the stars. In her entire life, she had put so much hard work because she knew that she deserved a good life. In fact, she had passed so well with good grades that had guaranteed her a partial scholarship in the United States. She had pursued and successfully completed her internatinal law degree. She had always wanted to become the best lawyer not only in Kenya, but the rest of the African continent. That dream offered her an inexplicable exhilaration that always overwhelmed and lifted her heart to dazzling heights.

The following day she was going for the interview that mattered more than anything. However, she couldn't shake off the uncanny feeling that anything could go wrong. It made her heart pound even more because she was a straight arrow who always went with one plan. She didn't have any idea what would happen to her, if she was denied an opportunity to pursue her dream job. Unable to stifle her expectations any longer, she decided to sit and welcome the break of dawn.

The act of dressing that morning seemed like unveiling of new beginnings to all promises for her future. Quiet excitement filled her heart as the vision of her new beginning was as clear as a fine photograph. Enthusiasm lifted her heart as she made her way to that interview that mattered. Finally that moment had arrived and her self- absorption calmed all throbbing nerves she felt. She was going to pass. She assured herself over and over because those words offered her a comfort that she desperately needed.

Linda couldn't believe what had just happened as she walked out of that interview room with blank and expressionless eyes. "We are sorry Linda, but you are not qualified for this job". She could feel those words shattering and piercing her heart a million times over. The sun spayed its shining blades of light but Linda could not feel its warmth. In fact, she never needed it. The horror that passed through her body was so sharp that it could cut the sky into two. It was so painful that she thought she was going to die. The vibrations of the punishing world had crushed all her hopes. The hoards of hell that rested in her eyes distorted her visage. What was she going to do now? That question lacked the slightest lying words of comfort.
