Four leaders allied to the Jubilee coalition have called on the Kalenjin community to stay put in the coalition and support its leadership in preparation of next year polls.
The leaders including Senators Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet), Stephen Sang’ (Nandi), Aron Cheruiyot (Kericho) and Chepalungu MP Mr. Paul Bii condemned Bomet governor Isaac Ruto for what they called undermining of Jubilee and its top leadership and specifically deputy president William Ruto.
The quartet while talking at a school function on Sunday in Chepalungu constituency asked resident from Rift Valley region to ignore calls from a score of leaders to join opposition and new parties in favor of the ruling coalition.
The leaders faulted governor Ruto for using public funds to support leaders affiliated to his Chama Cha Mashinani party as well as campaigning for the new party.
“Chama Cha Mashinani has no potential to make an impact in the Rift Region leave alone the whole of the country.” Mr. Murkomen said.
Mr. Murkomen gave a sh. 500,000 each donation from the deputy president to Itembe primary school and Metipso primary school both in Chepalungu constituency.
“This is a party that is only meant to divide Kenyans to satisfy the selfish interest of an individual and should be ignored at all costs”. Mr. Murkomen noted.
Senator Cheruiyot said that governor Ruto should be held responsible for using public funds in campaigns for the recent by elections in Kericho county, Lelmokwo and Nyongores wards.
Nyangores ward by election in Chepalungu sub-county was won on Peoples patriotic Party of Kenya (PPPK) a party affiliated to governor Ruto’s Chama Cha Mashinani by Mr. Andrew Maritim.
This was also criticized by the leaders who said PPPK was not even Ruto’s and the decision by governor Ruto to use the party for his candidate election was necessitated by CCM not being registered at the time of the by election.
Senator Sang’ urged residents to back Jubilee for reelection to presidency next year and support the DP in his aspiration to secure presidency in 2022.
On his part Mr. Bii the area MP said governor Ruto was one of his constituents who knew that Chepalungu residents were ardent supporters of Jubilee government.
“It is a known fact that Chepalungu residents and majority of people of Bomet County are strong supporters of the Jubilee administration and its leaders and we support both President Uhuru Kenyatta and deputy president William Ruto.” He stated.
