Sycophancy is ruining Kenyans’ lives

Is it not absurd to see decent, respectable men and women, including helpless youth singing and dancing in praise of a leader who has only succeeded in depriving his people in the name of leadership? Is this not sycophancy? Almost every Kenyan is implicated in one form of sycophancy or another, much to the damage of democracy and national development.

Non-performance by our leaders is a product of sycophancy. Those who engage in sycophancy do not do so out of spite but because of material gains. Interestingly, leaders will say anything about everything, just to please their subjects. As a result, enmity is bred, mostly among political parties.

Sycophancy is slowly eating up the soul and conscious of the nation. Many are being recruited into it, including our youth. Yet Kenyans do not want to see the truth because of what has been fed into their minds over the years. Today, due to the upcoming 2017 elections, many are busy plotting how they will sell themselves to the electorate in order to emerge 'winners', yet again.

Our youth should realise when they are being falsely lured and retreat from being hoodwinked by insincere leaders. They are the future leaders of tomorrow, and our nation will be heading to a downfall if sycophancy continues to be embraced.
