Chaos at LSK event a blow for lawyers

It is a pity that the Law Society of Kenya’s annual general meeting at Bomas of Kenya ended abruptly last Saturday.

This is not the first time for LSK’s AGM to end prematurely. In March, this year, the same happened in Nakuru where public altercation and acrimony become the order of the day.

Lawyers are respected people in our society. They play an instrumental role in representing clients in court and in other legal matters. Therefore, they are expected to conduct their meetings in an orderly way devoid of acrimony and public altercation.

However, one wonders why they cannot settle disputes among themselves over allegations of misappropriation of funds and leadership wrangles within their society. Must they wash their dirty linen in public? Why did they choose to act in such disrespectful and discourteous way in the name of settling their dispute?

If such scandals become the norm in LSK, the image and reputation of lawyers will be irrevocably and irreversibly destroyed. The time for change is now.
