The President must break his silence on Moses Kuria

The past week has seen a lot of media coverage on Moses Kuria for obviously the wrong reasons, majorly allegations of incitement. Yesterday however marked the peak of negative publicity surrounding the Gatundu legislator after he walked out of a live television interview when he was put to task about his utterances.

From videos aired by national television stations, the weight of Kuria’s remarks on NYS and CS Waiguru are grave and seek to undo the few strides that have been made towards national cohesion.  Kuria has built a reputation of being loose-tongued but his remarks unsettled most Kenyans with many calling for his arrest.

Astounding however is the fact that the president has remained silent on Kuria’s outburst about people he perceives to be against devolution CS Anne Waiguru. Given he is a key member of the president’s party and by extension the Jubilee Coalition, the president’s silence stands to stamp that he shares in Kuria’s views.

Even when leaders allied to the Jubilee Coalition came out to condemn the utterances the president has remained silent.

Senator Murkomen condemned the utterances from his tweet saying, “Moses Kuria should not only apologize but must regret, take responsibility & be made accountable for his utterances. Of what use is Chapter 6?”

Senator Naisula Lesuuda did not also have any kind words for the Gatundu MP. “Everytime I think of Moses Kuria’s remarks and the cheers I cringe. #Unacceptable. It negates a lot of peace work on cohesion and tolerance.” She tweeted.

While the president might not be of the same school of thought, his silence might be construed to mean that he shares in Moses Kuria ‘s views. He must therefore come out to boldly condemn the utterances in the spirit of the constitution or be quiet and let Moses Kuria soil his reputation and that of his party.
