Progressive versus retrogressive politics in Kenya

My attention is drawn from the recent meetings of Western MP’s at Statehouse and recent demonstrations in Kibera in relations to CS Waiguru’s controversial Sh800m MONSTER.

Indeed, retrogressive politics have no place in Kenya politics. The top brass in Jubilee administration and ODM top leadership have begun a collaboration that clearly shows the differences between progressive versus retrogressive politics in Kenya. The “collabo” initiated should never be allowed to wither. Cheap and juvenile politics have no place in Kenya.

Gone are days when politicians were labelled moles due to their contestant association with progressive politics. The recent visits of western MP’s to statehouse are a clear demonstration of maturity in Kenyan politics. ODM Secretary General Ababu Namwamba who at some point refused to swear in royalty to the president has come out strongly to defend progressive politics and has defended western MP’s visit to State House on Monday, saying the agenda had nothing to do with politics but development.

To prove his point, their meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto was to find a way of uplifting economic status of Western Kenya. The government’s pledge to revive struggling Mumias Sugar Company has been born out of their visit. This is a clear demonstration that retrogressive politics have no place in the new Kenya.

On other fronts, the ‘Kibera on Fire” slogan is a total mockery to progressive politics in Kenya. You cannot demand Waiguru's resignation by burning clinics and destroying infrastructures that has direct benefit to poor and vulnerable people. Though there is need for CS Waiguru to explain beyond sideshows NYS alleged corruption and misuse of sh 800million, those who are behind demolition and burning of infrastructure need also to be apprehended.

The long arm of the law should be used to straighten up retrogressive politics in Kenya. It’s also retrogressive and awkward to see National Youth Service servicemen/women demonstrating in Nairobi in support of Devolution CS Anne Waiguru. They should also stop fighting back through dubious means and concentrate their efforts and energy in upgrading slums in Kenya. Their demonstration is also retrogressive.

Developed countries never demonstrate in search for truth because truth fights for itself. The top brass in Jubilee administration and ODM top leadership should live up to the possible collaboration of good governance we’ve seen in them of late. They should hold hands together and shun cheap and juvenile politics. Their meeting at statehouse recently to discuss progressive politics is a clear effort of leaders living up to the expectations of Kenyan people. They need to collaborate more in progressive politics and demonstrate unity of purpose.
