Comedian Eric Omondi has launched an initiative dubbed Kenya Employment Association in a bid to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page, the vocal social media influencer said almost half of the Kenyan population is jobless hence making it difficult for most families to make ends meet and live comfortable lives.

“Nearly half of the Kenyan population is unemployed. Most men are unable to provide for their children and wives. Putting food on the table has become an issue in this country and it is because of the high levels of unemployment,” he said.

According to Eric, the initiative will provide employment opportunities by connecting employers to employees genuinely without bias.

“We are going to provide employment by connecting employers to employees. If you are out there and you are not employed, please send your number and name to this number, we are going to put all our energy and creativity to connect the employers to employees because that is the only way we are going to save this nation. Kenyans have done their part, they have gone to school, they have studied, they have skill and there are no jobs.

“The amount of graduates in this nation that are tarmacking year in year out, the percentage of graduates that have been unemployed for more than 10, 20 years. The number of engineers, and doctors that are riding bodabodas, the number of lawyers, and nurses who are walking on the streets of Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa unemployed, the amount of graduates in crime in this country… People whose parents spent their savings to take them to school have tried with all their sweat, all their energy to secure any form of job and they are unable to get that job,” he added.

Calling on the employers, Eric asked that anyone with an opportunity regardless of the type of work should be open to hiring Kenyans to help with the joblessness situation in the country.

“If you are an employer, if you have any job, it could be a house help, a mechanic, a nurse, a doctor, a lawyer even mtu wa mjengo. If you have somewhere you are building and need a casual worker to carry blocks or wood, please comment below. We are going to start a movement, a sort of association that we name, Kenya Employment Association. This platform that we are starting today is going to revolutionize employment in this country.

“We are going to connect you, whether you are a house help, a doctor, pilot, engineer, pilot, Kenya has one of the highest rates of unemployment and the saddest part is a bigger percentage of that number are graduate that are unable to secure basic needs for their children and their families,” he went on.

In his explanation, most children die untimely deaths because their parents are unable to give them quality lives due to unemployment.

“The only way we are going to prevent children from dying is by securing employment for the father and mother and these employment opportunities are available we just need to expose them and this platform is going to connect the employee to the employer. If you are an employer and you have any job, we are not discriminating, we are not choosing, please contact us and you are going to connect unemployed Kenyans beginning today.”
