I will cover mum's funeral costs - Babu Owino to DJ Evolve's family

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has pledged to support the Orinda family following the death of Mary Hongo, mother to DJ Evolve, a source close to the family has revealed.

Mary passed away Wednesday evening. After a routine start to her day where she had breakfast with her husband, Mary left for her shop in Lucky Summer, Kasarani. All appeared to be well until shortly before 4 p.m., when she apparently collapsed and called out for a friend and neighbour.

Her neighbour reported found her on the floor, her breathing laboured and complaining of severe abdominal pains. Mary initially declined the suggestion to go to hospital, but when her condition worsened, she agreed and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Mary’s breathing was still laboured, the abdominal pangs persisted, and she was now vomiting. Even though the doctors determined that her heart and blood pressure were fine, they recommended a transfer to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. It was during the transit that Mary succumbed.

The news rocked the Orinda family. DJ Evolve, who according to his father John had been recuperating well, went into severe distress when he learned of his mother’s passing, and he had to be monitored closely for over two hours for his pressure to return to normal.

“He is doing okay. He has been saddened by the passing of his mother, but he is doing better,” revealed our source.

Babu Owino, the MP linked to the alleged shooting incident in January 2020 which resulted in DJ Evolve’s hospitalization and eventual paralysis, reportedly visited the Orinda family in hospital.

“I will take care of everything,” he pledged. “Medical, burial expenses… I will cater for all that.”

The Orinda family has asked for time and privacy as they come to grips with the loss of their matriarch in still-unclear circumstances.

“We would like the time to process what has happened and to grieve privately, but when the postmortem is conducted in one to two days, we will be able to talk more about it,” they said in a statement.
