Google creates a doodle to mark the 11th anniversary since Kimani Maruge, first went to school

Google has created a doodle to mark the 11th anniversary since Kimani Maruge went to school for the first time, at the age of 84.

Since then, Maruge is believed to be the oldest person to have enrolled in primary school.

Although he had no papers to prove his age, Maruge believed he was born in 1920. He later perished on the 14th of August, 2009.

Mr Maruge, as one of the veterans of Kenya's struggle for independence, rose to fame when he enrolled at Kapkenduiywo Primary School, in Eldoret.

A feature film about Kimani Maruge, starring Oliver Litondo and Naomie Harris titled ‘The First Grader,’ was released on May 13, 2011.

The British-produced film was shot on location in the Rift Valley, despite earlier reports that it would be filmed in South Africa.

The great Maruge holds the Guinness World Record for being the oldest person to start primary school.

Google is said to have created the doodle as a reminder that it is never too late to learn something new.
