Five suspected rapists arrested in police swoop in Githurai, Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: Police are questioning five men suspected to be part of a gang that is behind cases of rape in Githurai 44, Nairobi.

The men were arrested on Tuesday in a police operation in Ngomongo along the Northern Bypass. The suspects were nabbed in a cave at a thicket and police say there were clothes, an indication people lived there.

The clothes included female underparts which police took away to help them in investigations.

Kasarani OCPD Francis Sang said they are interrogating the suspects to establish if they were involved in rape incidents.

"There were also pornographic materials but we are investigating the incident," said Sang.

Meanwhile, residents of Kiamumbi area in Nairobi's Kahawa West are living in fear after a spate of night attacks by thugs.

The latest happened Tuesday night at an apartment where five thugs broke into at least six houses and stole cash and valuables.

In a span of one week, three homes, including a flat, in the same neighbourhood, have been invaded leaving one gate man fighting for his life in hospital.
