City Administration Police turned into watchmen

By HUDSON GUMBIHI

Some city police officers have found themselves in irrelevant assignments in the city. The administration police officers are allegedly forced by their seniors to carry out non-core duties.

Most are deployed to guard buildings under construction where owners have allegedly paid to have their property protected.

A resident of South B estate said the trend is common in the estate, citing a learning institution presently guarded by police officers.

An officer who spoke to The Nairobian on condition of anonymity said under normal circumstances, such security undertaking is supposed to be official and money paid by private individuals seeking protection accounted for officially.

The affected officers are appealing to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Samuel Arachi to confirm whether the deployments are formal.
