Unions: Don’t devolve education

Teachers have criticised a proposal by the Council of Governors to push for the transfer of some education functions from the national government to the counties.

Governor Martin Wambora over the weekend announced that governors want to advance a proposal to have development of school infrastructure devolved to counties.

This, he said, will be in a bid to relief parents the burden of developing infrastructure in schools.

In opposing the move, teachers allied to the Kenya National Union of Teachers and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers expressed discontent with the way the governors are running the health function saying it is being characterised by strikes.
