Nadal claims Federer ‘favoured’ by playing at night

Rivalry and war of words is playing at the Australian Open between two tennis icons Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, over the timing of their matches. Nadal has hinted that Federer has been slotted for night matches and as a consequence he feels that the Swiss has more advantage of playing in cool weather, as he battles in the scorching heat during the day.

While being interviewed by UK-based media house, the Spaniard admitted that Federer has more leverage and that makes the whole arrangement ‘unfair for the rest of the competition.’

“You know the same like me why there is a player that plays the night and others play the day. There is television, there is tickets to sell, and there is players that achieve more than others. That’s why some players play in prime time and other ones don’t play in the prime time.” Said Nadal.

His statement implied that the organizers of the tournament have focused on more on minting revenue at the expense of leveling the ground for the competitors. Nadal has been playing during the day, which he says is somewhat strenuous due to the harsh weather condition.

But on his part, Roger Federer is said to have admitted that playing at the ‘prime’ has its own positives and that he himself had requested for that ‘favourable’ time.

However, the 36 year old declined to accept that there is unfairness in terms of slotting the competitors under different conditions.

Australian Open tennis tournament is underway with tennis giants taking their chances to advance to the quarter finals.
